Where
Ukrainian music meets the world

Our Story
Behind the music

Dr. Zachary Senick (Захар Сенюк) is a bassoonist originally from Saskatoon, Canada. He holds a DMA from the University of Toronto, which resulted in founding the online database “Ukrainian Chamber Music Encyclopedia.” He has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Orchestre de la Francophonie and a substitute with orchestras such as the Canadian Opera Company. An avid contemporary performer he has works written for and dedicated to him by over 20 different Ukrainian composers. In addition to performing, he currently is the librarian for the Niagara Symphony (past: Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Music Centre & International Music Camp), and archivist for the Council or Canadian Bassoonists. In his free time, Senick is an avid cook, and his favorite things to make are perogies and borsch.
It all started during the pandemic when Dr. Zachary Senick started his doctorate in musical arts and needed a research topic. He set out on a mission to track down every chamber piece possible written by Ukrainian composers. During this process, he made many meaningful connections with composers tracking down over a 1000 works from over 250 composers. Afterwards, he found the Ukrainian Chamber Music Encyclopedia to showcase all of the amazing music he found. Now through UCME Publishing this music is available to you to perform!
