Papillon blanc for flute and piano (Tatiana Stankovych) PRINTED
This is a 2 minute work at an Intermediate Level.
This is a short one movement work in an Andantino tempo with a graceful character that depicts a beautiful butterfly taking flight and fluttering around. Musically, this is depicted by sixteenth and eighth notes that weave around the tonal center contrasted with more lyrical phrases one eighth note or two sixteenths leading to a longer note values of dotted quarter and half notes that allow the flute to shimmer with their tone and vibrato. The work begins in the lower register of the flute and develops to the middle register before returning to the original lower register very much like a butterfly beginning on the ground and slowly lifting itself up into the air. The piano provides a steady accompaniment of constant quarter notes that lead to half notes that are outlining the perfect fifth interval allowing the flute to wander around the third to discover the harmonic progressions of the phrase.
