Rondo-Sonata for flue and piano (Vsevolod Sirenko) DIGITAL

$15.00Price

This is a 4 minute neoclassical work at a Late Advanced Level.

This is a short one movement-work structured into two main sections in a rondo form. The A section features a cheeky theme comprised of staccato eighth notes and sixteenth or grace notes leading into them, which is first presented in a piano introduction. The flute then enters with the theme which develops into passages of sixteenth notes in a sequential manner. The piano often has syncopated accompaniment motifs to give a dance-like character and energy. The B theme “Allegro ma non troppo” is built on repeated staccato sixteenth notes. The contrasting B section “Andante” marked poco rubato has a quasi-improvisatory character consisting of quintuplets leading to a dotted eighth note that are in dialogue with chords in the piano during the flute’s rests. This leads into a virtuosic flute cadenza that is technical display across the registers of the flute. The initial return to the opening A material is now very disjunct with each note in the theme being displaced octaves apart. Eventually, a “meno mosso” in a lyrical character of slurred eighth notes in the flute interrupts this before a more true return to the material to conclude the work.
