Unstoppable Wind of Freedom for woodwind quartet (Tatiana Stankovych) DIGITAL

$15.00Price

This is a 3 minute work at an Intermediate Level.

This is a one-movement work in a contrapuntal style that explores a wide variety of keys and harmonies throughout. The character is melancholic due to the minor tonality that sneaks out throughout combined with unexpected harmonies and unprepared shifts of keys to symbolize the spirit of the Ukrainian people constantly pushing through their struggle to fight for their independence despite what unexpected challenges arise. Overall, musically the piece is legato with constant weaving and dialogue between the different instruments to create one long line that appears to never be ending due to two main factors 1) there is never being a rest for everyone at the same time, 2) the cohesion of phrases by one instrument phrase ending colliding with the start of another instrument. The main motif first presented by the flute is two quarters followed by an eighth note on a repeated pitch that then falls into a string of weaving eighth notes. All four of the instruments either play this melody in a fugal style in moments or in a fragmented and variation style.
